Typedesigners take inspiration from art and culture around them. Display fonts are a form of art/illustration. These are a few examples I found online.

This particular Display Font-'kalakari' was an inspiration for me.

It gave me a reason to think in terms of identity, since by looking at it I could make out that 'kalakari' is inspired by Indian jewelry and embellishment.
